What Maryland Employers Need to Know to Prepare for the Paid Family and Medical Leave Law

Maryland’s Time to Care Act of 2022 (“TTCA”) establishes a state-administered Family and Medical Leave Insurance program funded by both employers and employees. This important new law will provide paid leave for care for a newborn child or a child newly placed for adoption, foster care, or kinship care; care for a family member with a serious health condition; attending to a serious health condition that results in the employee being unable to perform the functions of his/her position; care for a service member with a serious health condition resulting from military service; and attending to a qualifying exigency arising out of the deployment of a service member who is an employee’s family member. Although the TTCA went into effect in 2022, key substantive obligations are not scheduled to begin until later this year. This is an important and far reaching new law, and employer’s should begin now to evaluate next steps for full compliance. Please join us on April 18th as Doug Desmarais, Esq. of Smith & Downey covers what Maryland employers should know about paid leave and how to respond to the legal developments. We will be addressing any questions in our Q&A!
